Jim Wright, Georgia EMC's Vice President of Training, Education, & Safety, conducts the Spring and Fall Safety Coordinators' Conferences.
These sessions enable safety personnel from Georgia's EMCs to meet twice a year to share ideas and experiences. Topics covered during previous conferences include:
Post Accident Review, Terrorism in the Electrical Industry, Drug Training, OSHA Recordkeeping and Ergonomics Update, Spill Response, Trenching and Excavation, CPR/First Aid products, and many others. Time is allotted at each conference for a roundtable discussion.
NRECA's Rural Electrification Safety Accreditation Program is designed "to inform and promote safety and loss control concepts in the interest of the employees and the public served; for the preservation of life and the prevention of injury; and to aid in the reduction of escalating costs associated with preventable injuries and/or death." Georgia EMC is responsible for coordinating and advising Georgia's EMCs who wish to participate and apply for accreditation. Based on a three-year review period, the accreditation process involves three steps:
