EMCs Complete Power Restoration

As of 11:30 a.m., Sunday, January 31, the electric membership cooperatives (EMCs) have completed power restoration for consumers in Rabun County who lost service following a winter storm that hit north Georgia over the weekend.

On Saturday morning, approximately 5,000 EMC consumers were without power after ice formed on trees and power lines. Local line crews and workers from other parts of the state worked throughout the day and night to clear outages as quickly and safely as possible.

Georgia EMC is the statewide trade association representing the state’s 42 EMCs, Oglethorpe Power Corp., Georgia Transmission Corp. and Georgia System Operations Corp. Collectively, Georgia’s customer-owned EMCs provide electricity and related services to more than four million people, nearly half of Georgia’s population, across 73 percent of the state’s land area.
