Summary
Provides support to GEORGIA Magazine (GMAG) centered on producing EMC member newsletters; serves as “point person” or liaison for EMC requests; assists in populating GEORGIA Magazine’s Web site; supports promotional event and meeting planning; and works with magazine team on specific editorial projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinates all of the EMC newsletters (NLs) published in GEORGIA Magazine, including all billstuffers (BSs). Assists in the monthly update of GEORGIA Magazine’s Web site, prepares monthly “Energy Notes” contents, helps oversee premium items/inventory.
Newsletter (NL) / Billstuffer (BS) production:
Coordinates all of the EMC NLs published in GEORGIA Magazine. Assesses and meets customer needs/requests, proofreads, gathers copy and photos, works with designers and checks proofs. Produces all monthly BSs. Works with contract proofreader; develops positive relationships with designers. Proofs monthly Table of Contents and Cover Banner Word files with other GMAG editors. Keeps records on NL/BS deadlines and marks additional costs incurred; provides accurate billing information to Production Coordinator.
Web-site Assistance:
Assists Managing Editor with monthly updates on Web site, including, but not limited to, photo preparation, copy downloading and the creation of “Web-exclusive content.” Performs monthly test runs and quality-control check on magazine’s Web site. Maintains positive working relationship with Web site vendor.
Editorial Assistance:
Produces the monthly “Energy Notes” pages, providing content and illustrative materials. Researches and writes monthly product review for “Georgia@home” column. Responsible for obtaining, filing, proofing and editing the James Dulley columns for “Georgia@home” columns. Assists with statewide editorial proofing and corrections as requested.
Support for Promotional Efforts/Conferences/Annual Meetings:
Works with ad sales staff to prepare/compile ad sales materials and giveaways for trade shows. Oversees the preparation, shipping, delivery and receipt of premiums and EMC annual meeting materials (with Production Coordinator support). Oversees storage rooms and organization of magazines and premiums (with Production Coordinator support)
Other Requirements:
Meets deadlines. Works with EMCs of Georgia, GMAG subscribers and advertisers to provide information and solve problems; solicits feedback from EMC editors to improve the magazine, including phone calls, visits and attending conferences, etc. Acts as liaison to EMC communicators seeking information about GEORGIA Magazine’s services and provides magazine staff with necessary information on EMCs’ communications needs. Assists Production Coordinator/Editor in planning and coordinating magazine’s annual newsletter editors’ seminar and subscribers’ meetings. Solicits feedback from EMC editors to improve the magazine, including phone calls and visits at conferences, etc. Coordinates EMC requests for print services with Production Coordinator. Keeps editor informed and updated; meets with editor on a regular basis. Builds and maintains positive relationships with EMCs. Promotes the magazine to EMCs. Is responsible for visiting all new EMC editors upon their taking the position, plus an annual visit to each editor. Assists Editor in the monthly memo going out to EMC editors. Builds positive vendor relationships. Represents magazine at 2-3 annual meetings with display booth and giveaways. Works as a part of GEMC; assists as requested with GEMC meetings and programs
Competencies
Good writing and editing skills. Must be courteous, helpful and able to meet people well in person, over the phone and through e-mail. Must be able to work independently and schedule a wide variety of tasks. Strong customer service and telephone skills. Proven track record of meeting deadlines. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with printing processes and desktop publishing software. A high degree of self-motivation and initiative. Proven problem-solving skills.
Qualifications and Education
Four-year college degree in marketing, communications or related field and two-plus years’ experience in office or print production environment, and a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Responsibilities include compiling, proofing and coordinating production of 12-15 electric co-op newsletters printed each month in GEORGIA Magazine. The job also includes assisting with other editorial projects for the magazine and its Web site, and providing support for advertising and promotional efforts. Applicants should be extremely detail-oriented, with proven ability to meet deadlines, multitask and prioritize.
